Some patients may need expertise or access to care that Dr. Harmon cannot provide in her individual practice; examples include a patient that needs a long-acting injectable medication, a psychiatric procedure such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), or an evaluation by a psychiatric specialty such as forensic psychiatry. Dr. Harmon does not perform child custody evaluations, perform evaluations for disability benefits, or (in most cases) treat active substance use disorders. If you or your child need a specialized service that is outside the scope of Dr. Harmon's practice, she will do her best to refer you to appropriate local providers as soon as possible.

If you have an urgent or emergent mental health need, please call 911 or present to a local emergency room.

TELEMEDICINE

Dr. Harmon offers telemedicine visits for most new & follow-up visits. Telemedicine visits are conducted using HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform.

In keeping with the requirements of the Ryan Haight Act, Dr. Harmon typically does not prescribe any substances (stimulants, benzodiazepines) via her telemedicine practice unless she has seen the patient first in-person. All prescriptions for controlled substances will require a controlled substance agreement, and (by law) Dr. Harmon will check the appropriate state drug monitoring program database prior to prescribing any controlled substances.

VISIT TYPES

EVALUATION (CHILD/ADOLESCENT – UNDER 18)

An initial visit for a child or adolescent patient is completed in three parts. Part I consists primarily of interviewing parents, and the identification of any additional information needed (lab studies, medical records); Part I typically takes about 40 minutes. Part II takes place after (and sometimes on a different day than) Part I, and consists of a patient interview/observation; Part II also takes 40 minutes. Part III is completed on a different day, and includes discussion of diagnosis and treatment planning (most commonly with child and parent included).

EVALUATION (EXTENDED ADULT- AGES 18+)

For young adults (typically ages 18-22) who remain in the care of their parents or who have a significant psychiatric history, the evaluation process takes place in two parts. Part I consists of interviewing the patient (and sometimes parent or caregiver if appropriate) and lasts 60 minutes. Part II is scheduled for 30 minutes and consists of a discussion of diagnosis and treatment planning. Dr. Harmon reviews relevant records and collateral information prior to the treatment planning session.

EVALUATION VISIT (STANDARD ADULT- AGES 18+)

An initial visit for an adult patient with lower complexity is completed on one day, and lasts about an hour. You will be asked about your medical and psychiatric history, current symptoms, and goals for treatment. At the conclusion of the visit, a treatment plan will be developed with your input.

FOLLOW-UP VISIT (WITH THERAPY)

For patients receiving therapy, visits will typically be scheduled for forty minutes.

FOLLOW-UP VISIT (NO THERAPY)

Follow-up medication management visits will be scheduled for forty minutes (under 18). Adult patients not receiving therapy may utilize 30-minute (and in some cases, 20-minute) medication management visits on a case-by-case basis.
